Goniometer (Optical Contact Angle/Surface Tension Measurement Device) (TAYG)
Instrument: Attension Theta
The goniometer is used to determine the properties of liquids and solids in various industries and research areas.
Specifications
The goniometer records the drop images and automatically analyzes the drop shape over time. The droplet shape is a function of the surface tension of the liquid, the density difference between the liquid and the surrounding medium. On solid surfaces, the drop shape and contact angle depend on the free surface energy of the solid. Measurements of contact angle, surface tension, interfacial tension and surface free energy; wettability, liquid absorption, liquid retention, liquid diffusion, surface cleanliness, surface heterogeneity, emulsion stability etc. Provides information about material properties such as
Applicable Drip Profiles
Stationary (sessile), hanging (pendant), tilting drop, fixed bubble, meniscus drop types and static contact angles "advancing contact angle" advancing to the front of the liquid and "receding" contact angle advancing to the back of the liquid " is determined in two ways.
Measurement Type
The following measurements are possible with the Theta device:
For solid samples:
- Static contact angle
- Free surface energy
For liquid samples:
- Surface tension
- Interface voltage
Sample Requirements
The method can be applied to solid and liquid samples. Dry and surface of solid samples are free of dust, dirt, etc. must be free from contamination. Samples with deep pits and rough structures are not measured. If only the contact angle measurement is required for solid samples, a total area of at least 4 cm2, if contact angle and free surface energy measurement is desired, a sample with a total area of at least 10 cm2 should be provided.
Before the application, it is recommended to have a preliminary interview with the responsible specialist about the status of the device and the experiment to be performed.
